What (and Who) is Rideout Press?

It’s a long and meaningful story. In short, it is the place where I publish (and republish) all of my work now. I wrote my first book in 2009 (The Little Book of Bootism), wrote another (12 Hugs & Cupcakes), and another (The Leader You Will Be), and then published my first official big book with a big house publisher in 2015 (Contagious Culture). In the meantime, I wrote another little book (The IEP Survival Guide: First Aid for Your Presence), and then another (The IEP Survival Guide for Divorce), and another (The IEP Survival Guide: First Aid for Your Life), and then another big one with a big house (Contagious You), in 2019 — just as contagious covid got rolling.

We published the Leader You Will Be and the first IEP Survival Guide under my company name as they were essential supporters of my work and talks, and people asked for them continuously.

But… The other books we “waited on” as my agents and publishers for the big books thought it best if we “hold until I had a bigger platform and was better known (or gone); after all, once I was “famous,” people would love these little books. So they sat on my computer. For years. Except for the Divorce Guide (which I passed around on PDF for anyone who was going through a divorce and asked me, or someone else who knew about it, for it), the only people who saw those other books were my team, editors, and endorsers.

In 2023, my publishing house, which published two big books, shut down its business books division and could no longer support the books. In 2024, I regained the rights. At the end of 2024, I was offered a book deal to update existing editions of those books, as well as to publish my next major book. It was with a dream publisher and something my ego would have loved, but in the end, it didn’t feel right. In 2025, I collaborated with a new dream publisher to release the next book. Still, ultimately, the publisher thought they were not the best fit for marketing the book to a business audience, so we decided not to proceed with the project. This left me back at almost square one, with two fully updated manuscripts, a new half-finished manuscript, and no big-house publisher. I spoke with another major publisher who expressed interest in the new book, but they would need fourteen months to publish it and “do it right,” given the numerous moving pieces and their other titles, which would mean that my books would sit again…for more years.

There is a story in the Bible about three men whom God gives gifts to. Two of them amplify the gifts and share them with the community, while the third man hoards them, “waiting” for the right time to share them. When God comes back to them to see what they’ve done with their gifts, he’s angry with the third man. I was starting to feel like the third man. All the time spent “waiting” for the right pieces to be in place, for the right strategies, for all the directions given by outside sources, meant years of me holding back on these gifts. So we are releasing them all this year. Yes, all at once.

Warning: They will not be fancy, they will not be “big,” they will not be perfect — but they will be honest, useful, and real. Some of these we are working on getting to print on demand, some you can order and we will ship to you, some are collector’s items which we only printed under 100 copies of and are at the end of inventory, and then of course you will see some come with some really meaningful and personalized private work at a significant investment.

Now… WHO is Rideout Press? Well, it’s me with an origin story I’m not yet ready to share publicly. But in a nutshell, “Rideout” represents a big, giant puzzle of becoming, telling the truth, being authentic, healing family systems and patterns, and riding into your next adventure, untethered and with boots on.
